■UFC115でミルコクロコップと対戦するパットバリーがミルコとの対戦を語る。mmagumboより。
UFC115でミルコと対戦するパットバリーが今回の対戦は今までのキャリアの中で一番クレイジーな事だと言いました。バリーはミルコの事を若い時からアイドル視していて彼もミルコと同じようにキックボクシングからMMAに転向してきました。
UFC heavyweight Pat Barry says his UFC 115 fight with Mirko “CroCop” Filipovic is “the craziest thing that has ever happened in my career”. Barry idolised Filipovic when he was younger and the Croatian was one of his role models in the sport as he moved into professional kickboxing and from that in MMA.「自分のキャリアの中で自分が上手くできるかわからなくても、自分には何か特別なものがあって、上手く出来るという自信を持つ必要があるんだ。」バリーは言いました。
“Every once in a while you get a sign in your career, like where you are not sure if you are doing well – you’re winning fights, but you need something special to let you know that are doing well and that you are getting better and you are good at what you do,” Barry told US Combat Sports.「自分の名前がミルコクロコップと同じ文章の中にある。そればかりでなくミルコと闘うことになったんだ！彼と初めて会う事ができる、彼のグラブに触れる事が出来る、望むなら彼の顔にパンチを入れる事ができる。つまりしたい事が全てできるんだ、金を払ってもいいくらいの事だよ。」
“My name is being used in the same sentence as Mirko CroCop. Not only are we in the same sentence but we are on the same card. I’m going to be able to meet him for the first time, touch his glove, and hopefully punch him in the face … So that means that everything I have been doing is paying off.”バリーは言いました。
「この試合は夢が実現したって言う以上のものだよ。彼はオレのヒーローの中の１人なんだ。彼のポスターを壁に貼ってた事もあるんだ。MMAは進化してミルコはもう危険なストライカーじゃないかもしれない。でも彼はこのスポーツを進化させたと思うよ。もし彼がいなかったらグラップラーとストライカーというくくりの選手しかいなかったはずだよ、でも彼がいたから試合の中で蹴りやパンチを使う事が必要だと分かったんだ。」
Barry says the fight “is more than a dream come true, he is one of my heroes and I had his poster on my wall…The sport has evolved so much that Mirko CroCop is possibly not the deadliest striker in MMA anymore. I blame him for the evolution of the sport. If not for him we would be way back where everyone was either a striker or a grappler but because of him everyone had to learn the [striking] game.”バリーは変わった経歴をしていて21歳になるまでファイターとしてのトレーニングをしていませんでした。ほとんどのトップファイターはもっと早くキャリアを始めています。サンショーという中国キックボクシングからキャリアをスタートさせ、バリーはMMAを始める前にはいくつかのメダルを勝ち取っていました。
Barry is unusual in that he fights at the top level yet did not start training until he was 21 years old; most top-ranked fighters begin in their teens if not earlier. Starting out with the Chinese kickboxing style of San-Shou, Barry won several medals and tournaments before transitioning to MMA.彼はUFCに出るようになってからグラウンドを集中して練習するようになりましたが立ち技の方が好きだと言いました。彼はミルコとの試合はスタンドの状態の方が多いだろうがそれがずっと続くかわからないと思っています。
He trains intensively in the ground arts since joining the UFC but confesses that stand-up is his true love. He expects the fight with Filipovic to stay standing and he does not think it will go the distance.「自分自身のファンだしアームバーよりもノックアウトを見たいと思っている。グランドやレスリングも上手くなっているけどスタンドでの試合を望むよ。そしてキックボクシングスタイルの試合になってどちらかが蹴りかパンチをきめて試合が終わるのさ」彼はそう予想しました。
“I am a fan myself and I would rather see a knockout than an armbar… I am developing a love for the ground game and wrestling but I hope we stand there and have a good old kickboxing match… One of us is going to get stuck with something, and have to get carried out,” he predicts.

■ダナホワイトが会見でランペイジジャクソンの次戦の相手をマチダと発言したとの事。ちなみに今年の末に実現するようです。fightlineより。
「リョートのマネージャーのエドと話をしたよ。ここ数日でマチダの対戦相手を決めようってね。多分ランペイジだと思うよ。」ホワイトは記者のマチダの次戦の相手は？と言う問いにこう答えました。
“I was talking to [Lyoto's manager] Ed Soares, I am going to get together with Machida in the next couple of days… maybe ‘Rampage’,” White told press when asked who might be next to face “The Dragon.”
■アローナとダナの会談は上手く行ったようで。fightlineより。
「去年の末からUFCに参戦する機会が欲しいと言ってきたんだ。ようやく会う機会が出来てダナはぜひ参戦してほしいと言ってくれたんだ。彼はオレに機会を与えてくれたよ、あとはオレのマネージャーとの話し合いになるね。それが終わったら契約ってことになると思うよ。」アローナは言いました。
“I told him I wanted an opportunity to rejoin the UFC before the end of the year, a chance to be here and he said he wanted me on his event, that he has a space for me here on his event and that he only had to talk to my manager and then we would set things up,” Arona said.「ダナはドアは開いていると言ってくれた。でもまずはマネージャーとの話が先決だと言っていた。思っていたより上手く進んだよ。ダナは本当に親切でフレンドリーだったよ。やっと真剣にトレーニングをすることができるようになりそうだよ。」
“He said the doors were opened to me, but he would have to consult first his manager. It was much better than I expected, he was really honest and friendly, so it’s enough for me to come back to the hard trainings with an extra energy.”
とのことでこのまま順調にいけばUFCとの契約となりそうですがどうなるんでしょうか？
