A former PRIDE FC champion, Rua spent time in his early days training with middleweight dynamo Anderson Silva in the famed Chute Boxe camp in Brazil. Many fans are calling for a match up between the two exciting fighters and, while he expressed more interest in fighting Randy Couture or rematching Forrest Griffin, Rua did reveal that he is open to a fight with “The Spider.”

It doesn’t matter to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua who he defends his title against first. With the exception of good friend Wanderlei Silva, he’ll fight anyone. According to Dana White, the winner of the Rampage-Rashad fight will “probably” fight Rua first, however there’s still talk of Randy Couture getting the nod.

For me it doesn’t matter. I’ve heard a rumor that it could be Randy Couture… I think it’s between Randy, Rashad or Rampage…It would be a really tough fight, they are high level athletes and, for sure, the fights would be very tough… Now I’ll have to train even more…I leave it to Dana White to think about… I’m a professional fighter and I fight against whoever they want me to fight with.

Beating Lombard, who has been unbeaten for a while, what do you expect for the end of the year?

この種の質問に関してはよくわからないな。もっと戦いの事を考えたいしまだ時間もあるしね。まだ31歳だけどそう長くは試合が出来るとは思ってないよ。とにかく失った時間を取り戻したいよ。同じような間違いを何度も繰り返したくないんだ。自分の悪い面が出て何度も間違いを犯したよ。その事から何も学ぶ事が出来てなかったんだ。
とにかくヘクターロンバートとの試合に集中するよ。次の試合の事は心配してないよ。我々はハイレベルなアスリートだよ。良い練習もしてきたしね。でも最も重要な事はパウロフィリオは変わったと言う事を皆に分かってもらう事だよ。ずっと問題を抱えていたんだ。皆と同じようにね。今重要なのはヘクターロンバートに集中する事だよ。彼が良い対戦相手かとかベルトを持っているかいないかとか自分が18勝1敗の選手であるかどうかは関係ない事なんだ。自分の事を完璧なアスリートだと思っているし、決して楽な練習はしていないよ。楽な練習もあるけど、全てが全てそうじゃないんだ。自分にはスゴいバックグラウンドがあるんだ、彼と同じようにね。
I don’t think a lot about these kind of things, I think more about the fight itself and the time I still have. I’m 31 and don’t intend to fight for much longer. I just want to recover the lost time. I won’t make the same mistakes again then that one I committed when I was going through a rough phase, we can’t learn from everything. I’m just focused on Hector Lombard, I’m not worried about the event I’m fighting in and these things. We’re high-level athletes, we’re used to have a good life, but the most important is to show people that may think that Paulo Filho is done that he’s not. I have problems, so does everybody. The important thing now is Hector Lombard. It doesn’t matter that he’s in a good sequence of fights or if he has our not a belt, even because I’ve got an 18-1 cartel. I consider myself a complete athlete, never had easy time. Some easier, but none of them were a piece of cake. I have a expansive background, so does he.

We already was a fan of the guy before this… The guy is an extraordinary person, super humble. He has a lot to help the people there in the gym. It’s an asset to the academy”

■STRIKEFORCEの王者、ジェイクシールズは4月17日の試合の後フリーエージェントになるとの事。STRIKEFORCEは凄く良くしてくれて望むカードを組んでくれるかもしれないがもっと大きな試合がしたいとのことでUFCならそのチャンスが多いとのこと。またダンヘンとの再戦は望んでないとのこと。おそらくUFCに彼は行きますね。
